Demo Reel

Lipsync
During my studies at RITCS (Royal Institute for Theatre, Cinema and Sound), one of my projects was to make a lipsync animation of a given character, of which I was also given a character sheet.
Text:"Mijn beste dokter, uw remedie werkt wonderbaarlijk! En dat gaan we vieren!"Translation:"Dear doctor, your remedy works wonders! Let's celebrate that!"

Fingolfin vs Morgoth
This is a short animation shot I made in my free time. It's based on a scene from the book
The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien, a series I'm a big fan of.
As I was reading this part, I immediately created an image in my mind and decided to animate it.

Maeglin and Idril
An animation shot I made based on this fancast video I found on YouTube with characters from
The Fall of Gondolin by J.R.R. Tolkien. I thought the YouTube video fit these characters perfectly and made an animated version of the shots.
The original shots and audio are from The White Queen and Camelot.

Rough animation

Princess Elisabeth
For a college project, I was given the task to make a choreography animation for the intro of an invented show. I had to pick a melody which I would base my animation on and I chose one with medieval vibes. I decided to turn Princess Elisabeth of Belgium into a cartoon character.

Rue
During my internship at the animation studio Flan Caramel, I was working on an animation test shot for a short film that was in its early stages. I received a character sheet of Rue, the main character.
With this test shot we were able to figure out whether Rue's character design was easy to animate.

Fëanor and Fingolfin
In The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien, there's a scene where two brothers confront each other. I thought this was an interesting moment and wanted to capture it in a short animation.

Studies
In order to understand animation better, it's a good idea to study the way other animators work.
For a college project, I analyzed several animation shots by figuring out where the keys and breakdowns were, how the timing worked and so forth.
These three shots were the result.

Children of Húrin
Besides frame-by-frame animation I also made a few animations in After Effects, such as this animation below. This was a college project where I had to make a title sequence for a book that hadn't been made into a movie or series yet and make up the names of the cast and crew.
I chose the book The Children of Húrin by J.R.R. Tolkien.

11 Seconds Club
I made this animation for the 11 Seconds Club competition for September 2022. During this competition, you receive a dialogue on which you have to animate and create a little story of.
I ended up in 8th place!

Commissions
Besides character design commissions, I also make animation commissions.
Here are a few short animations I was commissioned!

The Fall of Gondolin
For a character design project in college I had to choose a movie, book or series, pick five characters and design or recreate them according to their personalities.
I decided to go for the book The Fall of Gondolin by J.R.R. Tolkien.

Maeglin
Turgon's nephew and Idril's cousin.
He's wise and brave, but also grumpy, jealous and rather quiet

Rue
For a short film during my internship at the studio Flan Caramel, I got the opportunity to work on character designs for the parents of Rue (the main character).
I experimented with different shapes and sizes and created silhouettes to give an idea of what her parents could look like.

Digital Art
These are some of my digital artworks.
I keep a notebook full of ideas I want to draw of which you can see the results here!

Commissions
On a freelance basis I take on commissions from clients who hire me to design their original characters, make custom animations or create book covers.
Amongst these, you can find some of my commissioned work.
These are all posted with permission.

Traditional ArtI made many of these artworks in art class at KASK Dendermonde
(Royal Academy of Fine Arts). It started as a hobby I picked up as a five year old and I eventually spent seventeen years in this art academy.
Besides art class, I also like to be creative by trying out different techniques or materials in my free time.

Figure drawing
I practice a lot of figure drawing in my free time, it's a great way to focus on the line of action and anatomy which is ofcourse important when animating.
These are all one minute sketches.
